Catalog

Catalog is a program that enables you to catalog, browse, and search your volumes. Pop in a CD, index it, then you can browse and search it whenever you want without having to pop back in. Catalog takes full advantage of Mac OS X to provide a truly intuitive and good looking experience. In addition, Catalog sports features like live filtering, speedy indexing, Finder-like browsing, and full Tiger compatibility. The only downside is that Catalog is shareware and cost 20 bucks to register. But if you have 100+ Backup CD’s and DVD’s like me, it is well worth it!

It might not look as cool as this app, but CD Finder (www.cdfinder.de) does a much better job in actually finding your cataloged items again - which is after all why you would catalog in the first place. For example, CD Finder lets you search by EXIF or ID3 tags, by smart file type (such as ‘movies’ or ‘images’) and lets you logically (ALL or ANY) combine search criteria to tweak your search through all those archived files. At 30 dollars, it’s a little more expensive but well worth the (extra) money.
I’m not in any way affiliated with the product or its authors.
